Minimally invasive pancreatoduodenectomy (PD), distal pancreatectomy (DP), and
parenchyma-sparing resection (PSR) have been shown to be safe and feasible worldwide, especially in
high-volume centers. Knowledge of peripancreatic vascular anatomy as well as its variations is essential
for precise dissection along the key anatomical landmarks, bleeding control, prevention and
management of complications. Moreover, this knowledge enables the selection of the most appropriate
intraoperative tactics.
Three reviews from the Study group of Precision Anatomy for Minimally Invasive Hepato-BiliaryPancreatic surgery (PAM-HBP surgery) (Nagakawa et al., 2021; Nakata et al., 2021; Nishino et al.,
2021) and experience from our own clinic were analyzed to comprise this report.
The main peripancreatic vascular structures were described with their variations and emphasis on the
different surgical approaches for specific cases.
